How To Make Cannabis Chocolate at Home

February 10, 2021 by Emmanuella Uka

Cannabis Chocolate

One of the most exciting edibles you can find in any dispensary is cannabis chocolate bars. They are not only enjoyable but super effective at delivering the desired psychoactive effects typical of edibles.

In this article, we’ll review some essential facts about edibles, particularly cannabis-infused chocolate edibles, and a simple recipe to get you going as a cannabis connoisseur.

Edibles are not just healthier ways to enjoy cannabis but are also the better alternative when you’re looking to get a longer-lasting high effect.

It is a very flexible recipe in that you can decide to tweak it to your desire. But basically, you only need to mix decarboxylated cannabis buds with melted chocolate bars, mold it into whatever shape you desire, and allow it to cool. Voila! You have your homemade cannabis chocolate served.

Cannabis Chocolate Recipe

There are many exciting recipes for making your cannabis-infused chocolate, but here, we provide a quick and straightforward recipe that you can easily replicate at home. Here are the ingredients and materials you’ll need to make cannabis chocolate at home.

  • About 2-5 mg of very good cannabis buds
  • 100 grams of high-quality chocolate bars (preferably, 70% cocoa and above)
  • Chocolate mold
  • A grinder
  • Saucepan
  • Mixing bowl
  • A baking sheet and parchment paper

Note that the chocolate bars need to be broken into smaller bits to ensure faster melting.

Instructions

#1 Decarboxylation of cannabis:

The first and most crucial step is decarboxylating your cannabis buds, as this step will determine whether you’ll end up eating actual chocolate infused with cannabis or just chocolate, but, of course, under the illusion that you’ve made cannabis chocolate. Ideally, you want to avoid the later result.

It is at this stage that you convert cannabis into its psychoactive state. Therefore, decarboxylating the cannabis buds cannot be overemphasized. What happens here is that the THCA and CBDA found in raw cannabis plants are converted by heating into their active forms, THC and CBD.

First preheat oven to 240 degrees F.

Next grind the cannabis buds to obtain a finer texture. Spread them on parchment paper on the baking sheet and insert it into the oven. Heat the ground cannabis for 30-35 minutes. Turn it over and heat for another 5-10 minutes. The cannabis is ready when you see a rusty brown coloration.

#2 Melt your chocolate in a double-boiler:

Set up an improvised double boiler and melt the broken chocolate bars. Get a pot and pour some water into it. Ensure the water is not touching the tip of the pot; three-quarter full is sufficient. Now, place a smaller pot on top of the first pot and preheat the water over medium heat for about 1-2 minutes.

Add your chocolate bars into the pot and heat for a few minutes to allow the bars to melt. The water should be simmering and not boiling. Stir the chocolate until it melts altogether, leaving you with a thick, dense velvet juice. This is the double boiler set-up.

It ensures that the chocolate melts entirely without burning or sticking to the body of the pot. Turn off the heat as soon as you achieve this.

#3 Mix, the ground, decarboxylated cannabis with the melted chocolate:

Mix the ingredients by pouring the cannabis into the pan containing the melted chocolate. Stir thoroughly to ensure the mixture is finely mixed.

#4 Pour the mixture into molds and get rid of air bubbles:

Get your chocolate mold and pour the mixture into them while it is still hot. If you do not have chocolate molds, you can improvise with an ice cube tray or pour it all into a big container so that you get a large chocolate block.

The only disadvantage with the last alternative is that it can be hard cutting the cannabis-infused block of chocolate when it sets. To expel any air bubbles trapped in the molds or ice cube tray, lift the molds gently and tap the bottom on the kitchen countertop. Also, ensure that you do not fill the molds to the brim.

#5 Refrigerate the cannabis chocolate and eat them as you need them:

If you don’t refrigerate, it may take a bit longer to set. However, if you store them in a fridge or freezer, it takes less time, about 10 minutes, to set, and you can be about your daily business.

Benefits of Cannabis Chocolate

There is a lot of good news from people who have eaten cannabis chocolate in the past. Here are a few of them:

  • They are relatively easy to make at home
  • They are a very healthy way to consume cannabis. Cannabis chocolate edibles have been said to be the best kind of edibles.
  • They are a rich source of potent antioxidants.

Conclusion

Cannabis-infused chocolate is an excellent way to enjoy cannabis and chocolate combined. But you need to ensure you do not overdose or overeat the edibles per time. Other methods of making cannabis chocolate include Hash brownies, and marijuana-infused hot chocolate, which are also very potent ways to make cannabis edibles.

To learn more about this, you can enroll for a master certificate course in cannabis at The Cannabis Training University. The course programs are arranged in such a way that allows for flexibility while you take the courses.
