Just about everyone who tries a good version of Bubblegum strain will enjoy it immensely.

Ironically, and typical for many “Dutch” strains, the roots of this strain are from the U.S., although the versions from Amsterdam are the ones most Americans know best. The reason for this is simple: for many years, the progressive cannabis laws in The Netherlands allowed for an explosion of breeding and tinkering with cannabis genetics.

In recent years, that situation has changes dramatically due to changing laws, and American cultivators have been able to come out of the closet and go public with their outstanding strains.

Bubblegum Strain History

Back in the late ‘80s and early ‘90s, this was not the case at all. In the U.S., everything relating to cannabis breeding and genetics was done in a covert manner.

Today’s Bubblegum had its roots in America’s heartland—Indiana to be exact. A grower produced a distinctly fruity strain that captured the delicious flavors of classic bubblegum.

From there, the strain went to the East Coast, where cuttings eventually made their way to Amsterdam. Where it ended up in the hands of two different seed companies: Serious Seeds and T.H.Seeds.

The head growers for these companies were quick to appreciate the unique qualities of this plant. So, they began breeding programs to preserve it, although each had a slightly different vision. This is fortunate, because both companies spawned worthy versions of what the world now knows as Bubblegum.

Each company took the strain in a different direction, while maintaining the flavor profile. Serious Seeds created a sativa-dominant version, while T.H. Seeds produced one that leans to the indica side.

Each is somewhat different and worth trying—and each makes a great cornerstone strain for creating new crosses. And there are many. Bubblegun and Bubbleberry are two such examples.

Other breeders attempted to refine and improve on the original bubblegum flavor. This resulted in strains like Bubblelicious (Nirvana Seeds) and Double Bubble (SOG Seeds).

When it comes to the best and favorite bubblegum or bubblegum-related strain, opinions vary, and you’ll have to be the final judge.

It’s undeniably fun to delve into the Bubblegum family. (The following cultivation notes and accompanying photo are taken from the Serious Seeds version.)

How To Grow Bubblegum Weed Strain

When grown, it is a stable strain that produces large, sweet buds. Some plants capture the bubblegum flavor more than others, but at the very least, they’re pleasantly fruity.

Some of the buds can be quite large, and because of Bubblegum’s tallish but sturdy stature, the decision of whether to top or not is up to the individual grower. An untopped plant can produce a fairly massive main cola.

Because of its sativa dominance, the Serious Seeds version might take slightly longer to mature than other versions, but the longer wait time is minimal, and the yield is average or slightly above average.

The calyx-to-leaf ratio on the flowers is usually quite good, particularly on the larger buds, which is a good quality when it comes time to trim.

Strain Effects

There’s not much more to say about the Bubblegum flavor profile than what’s already been written here, but the effects of this strain is excellent.

The initial head high never quite settles into a sedative couch-lock buzz. The overall feeling is quite balanced, pleasingly functional, and never racey. Which is great for those who dread the panicky feeling brought on by some sativas and have a general aversion to sativas because of it.

Whether you try the Serious Seeds, T.H.Seeds, Nirvana Seeds, or SOG Seeds take, you may just find yourself ranking it near the top of your favorites list. Don’t overlook the Bubblegum family. It has much to offer.

Personal Review of My Experience with Bubblegum Strain

“I've tried a lot of different strains, but Bubblegum is very charming and enjoyable. The aroma of this strain immediately piqued my interest and brought back childhood memories. Beautiful forest greens with irregular flaming orange hairs adorned the buds. But what truly drew my attention was that distinctive sweet aroma.

It smelled exactly like bubblegum. How a plant can reproduce the aroma of those pink bubblegum sticks from way back when is amazing. There were faint undertones of tropical fruit and flowers along with the sweet aroma. It was an olfactory voyage that took me back to more carefree times when I used to chew gum and hang out with pals.

I was greeted by a pleasant and sweet flavor profile as soon as I lit it up. The flavor was identical to the aroma, being syrupy sweet with berry undertones and a faint floral undertone. With each pull, it's one of those strains that you can't help but savor.

The high was well-balanced. I have a mild mental uplift at first, which makes me feel more gregarious and subtly euphoric. It resembled the happy, bouncy feeling of laughing with friends on a warm afternoon. As time went on, Bubblegum's indica side began to work its wonders. My body felt relaxed but not unduly intoxicated as a relaxing wave took over.

The capacity of Bubblegum to blend attentiveness and relaxation was what really stood out about it. I was at relaxed but still able to concentrate on my work. As a result, it was ideal for afternoon sessions when I wanted to unwind but still had a few tasks to complete.”Pete Dempsey, CTU strain expert.
