Harlequin Strain Review

If you love to consume CBD-rich whole-flower, check out our Harlequin strain review. Harlequin is a sativa-dominant, high-CBD strain descended from landrace strains. The result of its hardy genetics produces buds with balanced, relaxing, and clear-headed effects.

What Is the Harlequin Strain?

Harlequin is a sativa-dominant cannabis strain known for its exceptionally high CBD content compared to other similar strains. A unique balance of CBD and THC concentration allows you to feel calm with a slight buzz that won’t weigh you down.

Harlequin is an ideal strain for first-time users or those who prefer CBD-rich strains. The balance of cannabinoids avoids overwhelming novice users or those who need to be productive during the day.

Generally, Harlequin has a 5:2 ratio of CBD to THC. Analytics labs have measured samples of Harlequin and reported samples between four to 10 percent THC and six to 15 percent CBD.

Average CBD level: 8.5 percent

Average THC level: 5 percent

Terpenes: Myrcene, Pinene, Caryophyllene

Awards: 3rd Place in the CBD Flowers category – Highlife Cup 2019

Strains similar to Harlequin:

  • Cannatonic
  • CBD Critical Mass
  • Pennywise
  • Lemon Garlic OG
  • OG Kush
  • LA Confidential
  • NYC Diesel
  • Blackberry Kush

Harlequin Strain Genetics

Harlequin strain gets its prized genetics from a Colombian Gold, a Nepali indica, and Thai and Swiss landrace strains. Legend has it that the strain was initially bred by Mr. Green from the House of David Collective.

Mr. Green had his sights on breeding a THC-rich plant to make hash and concentrates, but ended up producing a sativa-dominant strain renowned for its high CBD content.

Athabasca (AKA Pennywise): Harlequin x Jack the Ripper

Quin-N-Tonic (AKA Quin & Tonic, HarleSin): Harlequin x Cannatonic

Harlequin Joe (AKA Freedom Baby): Harlequin x Joseph OG

Harlequin GDP: Harlequin x Granddaddy Purple

Harlequin Strain Aroma

Harlequin’s complex and subtle aroma has herbal, pine, peppery, and sweet notes. Unleash the inner musky and mango flavors using a portable or desktop vaporizer to consume your buds. Harlequin’s sweet and syrupy flavors will leave you wanting more.

Harlequin’s most common terpenes include the following:

Myrcene is one of the most concentrated terpenes among cannabis strains. You can’t miss its spicy and peppery aroma, also found in mangoes, thyme, and lemongrass. Myrcene is thought to be responsible for analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects.

Pinene smells like Christmas. A distinct piney aroma is commonly found in terpenes and can be used for anxiety, inflammation, and pain. Pinene-rich strains include OG Kush, Haze Berry, Remedy, and God’s Gift.

Caryophyllene has a blend of earthy, musky, and citrus notes that can also be found in black pepper, cinnamon, and cloves. Caryophyllene is believed to have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties and could help reduce depression and anxiety.

Harlequin Strain Effects

Harlequin’s effects are invigorating and mood-boosting. Consuming this high-energy sativa can leave you feeling alert and concentrated on the task at hand. Harlequin has won fans around the world for its ability to provide relaxation without sedation.

Harlequin’s CBD-rich trichomes are beloved for their effectiveness as a medical treatment for chronic pain and anxiety without the high. CBD can provide non-intoxicating relief without compromising its analgesic properties.

Feelings: Relaxed, Happy, Uplifted, Focused, Energetic

Medical uses: Pain, Stress, Anxiety, Depression, Inflammation

Harlequin Products: Whole-Flower, Cartridge, Pre-Roll, Isolate, Shatter

Growing Harlequin Strain

Those with a brown or green thumb can easily grow the Harlequin strain. Buy Harlequin feminized seeds online or clones at a dispensary nearby. Growers recommend planting Harlequin early in the planting season due to CBD’s quicker deterioration rate compared to THC.

Under optimal growing conditions, Harlequin can produce tall plants, a high yield, and large colas with bright orange-and-red pistils. Harlequin plants respond well to training to maintain proper airflow in the canopy. Harlequin can grow in soil or hydroponic mediums.

Harlequin can grow indoors or outdoors and prefers temperatures between 72º and 85º F. This sativa-dominant strain can handle high humidity levels as long as you ensure there’s a good airflow between plants and branches, which may need support due to the size of the buds.

Growing Difficulty: Easy-Moderate

Plant Height: 78 inches+

Flowering Period: 7-9 weeks

Yield: 3-6 ounces per square foot

Check out our blog post on how to maximize CBD production during its growth cycle. This CBD-rich strain, in particular, has a longer-than-normal drying time that can last up to three weeks compared to the average of seven to 10 days due to its heavy and frosty resin.
