In the state of California, there are retail marijuana stores that will be opening in the beginning of January 2018. Most of the marijuana stores are going to be for adult use. Some business owners will be getting temporary licenses issued from the Bureau of Cannabis Control. All of this will be effective as of January 1, 2018. These are guaranteed licenses, which dictate that these stores will be opened on holidays including New Year’s Day.
Some of the marijuana stores that are on the list include:
- Berkeley Patients Group
- Cathedral City Care Collective
- Creekside Wellness
- Green Cross Pharma
- Mercy Wellness
- Deserts Finest
- Green Pearl
- Desert Organic Solutions
- A Therapeutic Alternative
- Emerald Pharms
- Blum Oakland
- Elevate Shasta Wellness
- Purple Heart
There are major cities and local municipalities that determine their own opening times and dates. The city of Oakland, for example, permits marijuana stores to open at six in the morning. In the city of San Jose, opening time is nine in the morning. It is best to call ahead of time to know when each of these retail marijuana stores is opened for first time and existing cannabis users.. Let’s take a closer look at some of the cities on the list and their marijuana laws.
In the city of Los Angeles, marijuana stores are allowed and will be opened as of January first. In the city of San Diego and San Jose, the same is true for retail stores. However, in Fresno, the law does not allow marijuana stores to sell retail products. In the city of San Francisco, Flower Power got its state license for adult use sales of marijuana on December 29, 2017 and the store opened on January 2nd. This particular establishment closes on New Year’s Day. In the city of Sacramento, it is expected that retail marijuana stores will open up at the beginning of January. There will be a few current medical marijuana dispensaries that will sell adult-use weed and sales began on January 1, 2018. The city has cleared several retail stores that have been promised state licenses, but still waiting for the final issuance. Some of the stores cleared include:
- River City Phoenix
- Golden Health & Wellness
- Abatin Wellness
- Valley Health Options
- Alpine Alternative
- A Therapeutic Alternative
Long Beach does not offer licenses for adult use stores, but does so for medical marijuana. However, currently, the city is executing a draft ordinance so that adult use stores can be licensed and regulated at least by June 2018. In the city of Bakersfield, there will be no retail marijuana stores permitted. The same is true for the city of Anaheim. The city of Riverside does not permit any marijuana business operation. Santa Ana is a city that does allow retail marijuana stores licensed on or soon after January 1, 2018. This establishment is expected to open up by January 6. In the city of Stockton, there happens to be four medical marijuana dispensaries, but this city does not permit adult use retail stores and nd probably will do so in the latter months of 2018. The city of San Bernardino passed its Measure O legislation in November 2016. The city was authorized and regulated to accommodate adult use and medical cannabis use, but due to lawsuits, there has been numerous delays.
The Municipalities Regulate Marijuana Stores
Final regulations are being made by cannabis regulators in the city of Arcata. It is expected that the regulations will be approved for two adult use establishments. In the city of Berkley, Crescent City, Eureka, and Cathedral City are expected to have stores open at the beginning of the year.
