Regardless of what you think of its name, there is much to like about this strain. Brought to you by the fine folks at DNA Genetics, the same company that created favorites like L.A. Confidential and Lemon Skunk, this “limited edition” release is a perfect choice for new growers and seasoned professionals alike. It has qualities that are bound to please both finicky, small-scale connoisseurs as well as experienced commercial growers.
Honey Boo Boo (HBB) grows with vigor, and although it’s an 80/20 indica-dominant cross, some phenotypes like to stretch out a bit while others maintain a somewhat shorter, more-typical indica plant structure. This strain is the result of crossing two heavy-hitting indicas, Bubba Kush and Captain Krypt OG (another DNA strain), so expect decent potency. True to its indica origins, the leaves are dark, with some plants developing a pleasing purple color as they reach full maturity.
For best flavor after the final cure, cultivation in soil using organic additives is always the best way to go. Expect HBB to mature at around eight to nine weeks, with outdoor plants coming down in September. The buds are quite dense, so combined with its medium height, HBB’s yield is higher than average—qualities that are bound to please commercial growers. This is a forgiving plant. Therefore, it also makes a fine choice for those who are new to cannabis cultivation. That said, new growers should always remember that more is not always better when it comes to using soil additives. Taking a more conservative approach at first and upping the dosage if it seems warranted is always the wisest approach.
During the flowering phase, expect Honey Boo Boo to produce plenty of fat, dense buds. From a terpene perspective, HBB really shines and has an aroma all its own. A very pleasing and distinct candied sweetness provides the only clue as to how this strain earned its name. The aroma is pungent, but not in the strong skunky manner of so many other strains. As you enter a grow room full of Honey Boo Boo nearing harvest, expect a powerful blast of extreme sweetness.
The calyx-to-leaf ratio for this strain is quite good, so after harvest, trimming is not as labor intensive as it is with many other strains. Because of the fairly dense buds, careful attention should be given to the final cure, with a slow, thorough cure yielding the best results.
Grown and cured properly, Honey Boo Boo provides a very tasty and potent cannabis experience. As with most strains, using a vaporizer at a low or medium setting is the most rewarding way to taste the unique and pleasing flavors. The initial sweetness is supported by a rich, earthy, full-bodied dankness. It is slightly reminiscent of the Bubba Kush mother used to create this strain. Another quality HBB gets from its mother is the relaxing, sedative effects. The full body high and couch-lock feeling take a little while to set in and are evidence of its high myrcene content. Honey Boo Boo strain is a delicious evening treat that’s perfect with a large pizza and a binge-viewing session of your favorite TV show, because your motivation level will bottom out, and most likely you’ll decide to stay in for the night.
So, if you’re looking for something different to add to your grow room of outdoor garden, give serious consideration to the Honey Boo Boo Strain. This strain is definitely deserving of your attention. Your friends will appreciate it, and you just may find yourself adding it to your list of personal favorites.
