Cannabis Industry Job Salaries – Retail

Make a living selling cannabis to recreational customers and/or medical patients. Jobs range from the friendly budtender to the dispensary manager running the show. Cannabis dispensaries can sell products in-store and even deliver in some markets.


Budtenders must be friendly, outgoing, professional, and knowledgeable. On the sales floor,  you will be answering customer questions about products, strains, and consumption methods. On your down time, you will keep the store clean and well-stocked.

Delivery Driver

As a delivery driver, you will deliver cannabis products from a dispensary right to the customers front door in a timely manner. It is up to you to verify a customer’s identification, collect payment, and track your transactions.

Average Salary: $14/hour


  • High school diploma or equivalent (preferred)
  • 3 years of driving experience without violations (preferred)
  • 1 year of customer service experience (preferred)
  • Driver's license


As a cannabis receptionist, you will be the face of the company for guests and customers. Greet guests and check them in to the dispensary or other cannabis establishment. You will be answering phone calls and emails, as well as other performing other administrative tasks.

Average Salary: $14/hour


  • High school diploma or equivalent (preferred)
  • Previous retail or customer service experience
  • 2 years reception experience
  • Prior administrative office experience

Security Guard

Security guards work to prevent and identify fast in store or any other cannabis establishment. Security personnel must stand for long periods of time and monitor the premises, as well as the closed-circuit television for suspicious activity.

Average Salary: $16/hour


  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2 years of security experience
  • Customer service experience
  • Security guard card (if applicable)

Dispensary Manager

Dispensary managers must oversee a staff of budtenders.They must manage the daily operations of a retail store and ensure everything runs smoothly. Above all, they must ensure that all retail activities remain compliant with state and local regulations.

Average Salary: $60,000-$150,000


  • 3 years of retail management experience
  • 3 years of supervising experience
  • Previous retailer customer service experience
  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, management, business administration, or relevant field (preferred)

Grower’s Assistant

Grower's assistants must handle a wide range of cultivation tasks. Daily activities may include feeding, watering, and pruning cannabis plants. Above all, you must ensure that the health of the plants is of the highest quality and maintain accurate records of your activities.

Average Salary: $15/hour


  • Degree in horticulture, plant science, or a related science degree (preferred)
  • At least 3 years of experience in commercial cultivation

Master Grower

Master growers manage tens of thousands of square feet of a cultivation facility. They are in charge of handling the day-to-day operations of the cultivation process. They must delegate work to growers assistants and supervisors.

Average Salary: $80,000-$150,000


  • Several years of experience in cannabis cultivation
  • 3+ years of previous commercial cultivation experience as a head grower
  • Degree related to agriculture, botany, or related science field

Cannabis Industry Job Salaries – Manufacturing

Cannabis manufacturing encompasses everything from extraction of the resin to product development. Transform raw cannabis material into a wide range of infusions such as edibles, extracts, and topicals.


As a packager, you will be working with flower or extracts. You will weigh, package, and label cannabis products, such as joints, for sale. Cannabis packagers must be detail oriented and able to meet daily quotas in a speedy and accurate manner.

Extraction Technician

Edibles Chef

Unleash your creativity by creating new and exciting edible infusions from scratch. You will manage the day-to-day kitchen operations of producing edibles with cannabis oils. You will be in charge of managing a kitchen staff and ensuring the quality of the product.

As the kitchen assistant, you must assist the supervisor and edibles chef with any necessary tasks including preparing ingredients, cleaning the workspace, and storing products. Assistants may also help with preparing cannabis infused edibles.
