As of March 2017, the Israel cabinet was able to approve the decriminalization of marijuana use on a personal level. The Justice and Public Service ministries were the part of government that formulated the proposal.
If you are caught with cannabis and you are a first time offender and you were smoking the weed in public, you would be hit with a fine instead of being criminally imprisoned. The fine would be $270 for the first time offender. But, if you are caught a second time, you would still not be criminally charged and you would receive a fine double that of the first time offender.
On the third infraction, you would be put on probation with a criminal record, which could only be expunged in a specific time frame. For the fourth offense, there would be no fines, but a criminal charge.
The government uses these fines to help with drug treatment and drug education. There is more that you need to know about the marijuana laws in this part of the world, but in order to do so, you have to enroll at the Israel Cannabis College.
