GMO Cookies Strain
In the holistic world of cannabis, why would we have a GMO Cookies strain review? With all the controversy surrounding the use of genetically modified organisms, shouldn’t we be staying away from that in the natural world of medical and recreational marijuana?
The funny thing is that GMO Cookies aren’t a result of GMO-processes at all. But, the reputation of that label has made this cannabis strain take on another name: Garlic Cookies.
Whatever you call it, it is potent! Here at CTU, we’ll look into the profile of this ganja more in-depth so you know what to expect next time you come across this wonderful weed strain.
GMO Cookies Strain Genetics
First things first: there are some nomenclature issues to deal with. GMO Cookies was originally named GMO by Mamiko Seeds. GMO stood for garlic, mushrooms, and onions, which is what they believed described the essence the best.
There is another breeder that takes credit for discovering GMO Cookies as well, named Skunkmasterflex. Which one did it first is anybody’s guess, which is very common in the marijuana industry.
Interestingly enough, dispensaries were being bombarded with accusations of GMO products on their shelves and decided to rename GMO Cookies to Garlic Cookies themselves.
This marijuana strain is the result of crossing Chemdawg D and Girl Scout Cookies.
Chemdawg D is a specific phenotype of the classic Chemdawg lineage. Chemdawg is the classic potent strain behind legendary child-strains like Sour Deisel and OG Kush. It’s been used as a parent-strain many times!
The GSC phenotype used to create Garlic Cookies is from the Forum cut.
The resulting indica-dominant strain, known as GMO Cookies and Garlic Cookies, produces a relaxation high as well but boasts one of the most unique aromas and flavors in the cannabis world.
It isn’t as common as it’s parent-strains, but it has found success in the medicinal and recreational markets for many reasons.
Due to the rising popularity, other breeders are starting to use GMO Cookies to breed their own child-strains. Two of the more well-known child-strains are Wonka Bars and Han Solo Burger.
GMO Cookies Strain Yield
Getting your hands on verified growing stock of GMO Cookies, whether it be seeds or clones, can be a tough task. It’s not widespread and many on the market aren’t legitimate at the time of writing this strain review.
Indoor grows of Garlic Cookies can produce around 1.5 ounces per square foot of plant. Outdoor grows will produce a bit more with around 2 ounces per square foot of plant.
As a heavy-indica, this pot strain does well with topping and regular pruning of large fan leaves that can reduce airflow and light exposure to large portions of the plants.
Even though this strain is 90/10 leaning towards indica, the buds look like a sativa. The buds are flat and elongated with olive green and purple hues, laced with milky white trichomes and flowing orange hairs.
GMO Cookies Strain Flowering Time
Garlic Cookies is known to have a flowering period of around 10 weeks. It can stretch further than many indicas, looking more like a sativa as it is with its bud structure.
Harvest when your trichomes are milky white. Clear trichomes are immature and amber trichomes are to the point of maturity that can slightly lower your THC content.
Many experienced growers of cannabis aim for a mix of milky white and amber trichomes since amber trichomes are linked to a better body-high and THC isn’t the only factor to consider when looking to grow high-quality ganja.
Garlic Cookies Strain THC Percentage
This strain is potent! Average THC levels are around 22-24%, which is higher than many popular strains have even tested for. Tests have shown the ability for GMO Cookies to reach 30% THC as well.
The better the growing conditions, harvest punctuality, and curing/storing procedures are, the more THC GMO Cookies can produce in the end-product.
Be careful with this heavy-hitter, as it produces a high that can last for hours! Your body will feel deep relaxation and your mind will be free from negativity. The high tends to end in a couple of hours and results in a deep slumber.
Flavor & Aroma
Garlic, mushrooms, and onions: sounds like the base of a perfect dinner! But, the essence of GMO Cookies is more aptly described as a mix of fresh (not cooked) garlic and fermenting coffee. While the aroma is strong with its garlic essence, the flavor leans a bit more towards the fermentation of coffee grounds.
This mix doesn’t sound appetizing on paper, but the flavor and aroma of Garlic Cookies remain one of the top reasons people flock to it!
It is rich in Caryophyllene, Limonene, and Myrcene.
Caryophyllene produces the spicy aspect of the essence and is known to reduce inflammation.
