The short version.
A strain (cultivar) is a plant line with its own parents, cannabinoid and terpene profile, and growth habit. Two plants of one strain can still differ by grower and batch.
Terpenes give a strain its smell and taste. The most common in our data are caryophyllene (peppery), myrcene (earthy) and limonene (citrus).
Most strains are crosses of two parents. Each profile links its parents and the strains bred from it, so you can follow a family tree.
Start with type and THC, then flavor and terpenes. Growers: check flowering time, height and difficulty before buying seeds.
Keep a list of strains you want to try or grow. It's free with a CTU account: just your first name and email.
