In this Black Mamba strain review, you’ll see that cannabis genetics aren’t always solidified and there remain variations within a strain that can create issues for the commercial industry aiming for quality control standards.

Ensuring that all the Black Mamba that reaches the shelves requires more standardization than is present in the industry at the moment. So, maybe you’ve tried Black Mamba before, but you may not have tried the actual strain as it was originally designed.

What is the actual strain genetics, for that matter?

Black Mamba Strain Genetics

There are two different opinions on what Black Mamba ganja is bred from. The first variety is a cross of Granddaddy Purple and Black Domina. The other variety is a cross of Blue Bubblejuice and Black Domina.

At least one parent-strain is a given…

While the industry isn’t quite sure of the exact lineage, this hasn’t stopped breeders from working with both of these hybridizations.

For example, Blue Grass Seeds breeds Black Mamba with Black Domina and Blue Bubblejuice.

Blue Bubblejuice is a rare cannabis hybrid that isn’t easily found. It is a cross of Blueberry, Juicy Fruit, and Bubblegum. This hybrid is a 70/30 indica-dominant pot strain.

Other seed companies sell Black Mamba feminized seeds without listed the genetic heritage of the seeds. If you want to purchase seeds from a place like this, it’s best to contact them and find out the variety of Black Mamba they sell.

Then, other seed companies have accepted the Blue Bubblejuice variety as the Black Mamba strain and call the GDP and Black Domina cross Granddaddy Black.

Original Sensible Seeds is one of the seed banks that sell Granddaddy Black, which could easily be called Black Mamba due to the confusion surrounding the strain. This strain is heavily dominant on the indica side with a 95/5 ratio.

Regardless of which version of this strain you want to grow, you can find seeds online to grow it out yourself. Maybe you’ll want to try growing both and see what the different parent-strains can deliver when crossed with Black Domina, a sedative indica that medicinal patients love for treating stress, pain, and insomnia.

Strain Yield

The Blue Bubblejuice version of Black Mamba will produce around 1 lb per plant, whether you are growing it indoors or outdoors. It will produce medium-size plants that are of average difficulty to grow.

The GDP version of Black Mamba will produce around 2 lbs per outdoor plant while indoor growers can expect to harvest around 2 ounces per square foot of plant. It is a high yielding variety for the short-stature it will produce.

The vast difference in yield should convince you to verify the lineage of the Black Mamba that you are growing. There are other cannabis hybrids labeled Black Mamba that aren’t even closely related to these two listed in this article.

When a strain isn’t at the peak of popularity, consumers don’t know what to expect from that strain. So breeders from all over the place can label their new variety as that name and nobody will blink an eye. This wouldn’t happen with uber-popular strains like Blue Dream or GSC of course!

Black Mamba Strain Flowering Time

The Blue Bubblejuice variety has a flowering time of 55-60 days. It will produce deep purple and green buds and leaves, similar to that of the GDP lineage ironically. It also features an above-average coverage of trichomes, probably due to the resin-drenched Black Domina parent.

The Granddaddy Purp variety sometimes called Granddaddy Black as well, has a flowering time of 60-65 days. Again, it will produce forest green and eggplant purple hues in the buds, while the foliage may even turn a deep purple resembling black.

The buds are coated in trichomes, the result of the Black Domina heritage that is known for ample resin coverage.

Black Mamba Strain THC Percentage

No matter the variety you are working with, this indica-dominant hybrid can feature THC levels between 15-23%.

Both varieties produce a similar high. They are relaxing in nature and may be best-suited for late evening activities that will end in a restful bout of sleep. The similar potency and experience between the two heritages makes the difference subtle enough to allow both varieties to flourish with the same name.

Flavor & Aroma

If you thought the potency and experience being so similar is a coincidence, knowing that the essence between the two varieties is so similar makes it entirely plausible to allow both the Blue Bubblejuice and GDP varieties to keep the Black Mamba name.

The aroma is earthy and sweet and resembles a high-quality natural perfume. There is a small hint of grapes on the aroma, but this is brought out in the flavor profile much more.

The flavor of the smooth-sailing smoke is reminiscent of grape juice. It’s sweet and fruity beyond what the aroma leads you to expect.

With the varied lineages among Black Mamba, it’s hard to nail down the terpene profile. Some batches are known to be rich in Limonene, Pinene, and Caryophyllene. Other batches have tested high in Myrcene.

Medical Conditions This Pot Strain Can Help

Both Black Mamba varieties are best suited to treat insomnia, with high levels of THC and a relaxing effect. It can also be good for the following conditions:
