In this Mochi strain review, we’ll be delving into the Mochi strain that is more of a phenotype of the ever-popular Gelato strain than a unique strain itself. While the genetics may be the same, each time a breeder creates a new phenotype they try to develop enhanced recessive and dominant traits.

Genetics

As mentioned, the lineage of Mochi is the same as the Gelato strain. It is a cross of Sunset Sherbert and Thin Mint GSC. It’s an evenly balanced hybrid but the effects and growing stature seem more indica than sativa. Mochi is a hybrid marijuana strain also known as “Gelato 47” and “Mochi Gelato”.

The breeding group known as Sherbinskis is responsible for bringing Mochi, also known as Mochi Gelato and Gelato 47, to the forefront. They are also responsible for other fan-favorites like Pink Panties and Sunset Sherbert itself.

Sunset Sherbert is the result of crossing Pink Panties and Girl Scout Cookies. It has gained quite a cult following and is known as the heir of GSC itself by many in the cannabis industry.

Thin Mints GSC is a specific phenotype of GSC and has grown immensely popular as well. Its use as a parent-strain and as a source of high-quality Cookies ganja with the subtly of mint in its essence has put it atop the GSC throne.

Sherbinskis has yet to put out feminized seeds for growers to plant Mochi Gelato for themselves, so your best bet to grow a batch of this bud is to find clones with verified genetics.

This isn’t the most common strain, and you’ll probably be flooding with plenty of other Gelato phenotypes before finding yourself the holy grail of Mochi.

Don’t be fooled into purchasing seeds labeled as Mochi right now. They are either a different pheno of Gelato or an entirely different strain. Be patient with this one and maybe we’ll have seeds soon from Mr. Sherbinskis.

Yield

It will perform like an average indica with short plants that bush out more than they stretch. They will respond best to warm and sunny conditions, which can easily be imitated for indoor grows.

Pruning of excessive vegetation and training techniques will help each plant produce the best quality bud and can even raise your yields.

The exact yields for this strain aren’t well known but Sherbinskis singled out this phenotype due to its strong stature and impressive yields for such a short crop.

Flowering Time

This marijuana strain will mature completely through flowering in 8-9 weeks. Outdoor growers will be harvesting their bud in late September or early October.

Their short stature and condensed vegetation make it an easy job to cover them to reduce precipitation and moisture that can creep into dense indicas and cause mold and mildew.

Forest green buds are littered with purple hues if the right temperatures are reached during the early stages of flowering to bring out the traits that produce the purple in the buds. The buds are oversized and almost shocking in comparison to the short plants.

THC Percentage

There is a huge range of THC percentages found for this ganja strain. Some tests have shown as low as 10% THC, but that isn’t typical. You can also find THC levels between 21-29%, which is more likely to occur when the grower has experience and knowledge to grow, harvest, cure, and store the bud the proper ways.

Flavor & Aroma

The essence of Mochi is where it truly shines beyond the typical Gelato strain that it shares its heritage with. The aroma is filled with a mixture of tart fruits and minty nuttiness.

Sweet and sour describe the flavor very well, as the sweet berry essence hits your tastebuds first and a sour minty exhale quickly follows. It’s quite an enjoyable flavor and aroma which makes Mochi such a delectable weed strain.

You’ll find that Mochi is ripe with Myrcene, Pinene, and Limonene, which creates a blissful essence and an awesome base for medicinal usage.

Final Words On The Mochi Weed Strain

At the time of writing, you won’t find the Sherbinskis Mochi Gelato in seed form. You may get lucky enough to find it in clone form from some of the best nurseries, but it is far less common than the Gelato strain and its many other phenotypes.
