In this Jager strain review, we’ll take a look at a wonderful indica-dominant marijauan strain that features the unique essence of black licorice. This strain has many names, including Jager, Jagermeister, Jager Kush, JR, JGR, and Jager OG and has taken the Pacific Northwest by storm.

If you aren’t from the area, this pot strain may be unfamiliar to you. However, it’s worth a smoke session or two when it does eventually hit the shelves of your local dispensary!

Jager Strain Genetics

Is Jager strain an indica or sativa?

Jager Kush is an 80-20 indica-dominant hybrid cannabis strain that came to fruition after crossing Blue Dream and LA Confidential.

Blue Dream is quite possibly the most popular cannabis strain across the nation. It’s known for a fantastic essence and a blissful combination of physical relaxation and cerebral energy. It has spawned many child-strains, including Dream Queen and Cookies N Dream.

LA Confidential is a great cannabis strain for newcomers to marijuana and those who don’t want to be blown away by an immensely potent experience. The experience hits quickly and is quite calming.

LA Confidential has parented a few child-strains of its own, including Recon and LAPD, or LA Purple Deisel.

With immensely popular west coast cannabis strains as parents, it’s no surprise that Jagermeister has a stronghold in the Pacific Northwest region of the country. It hasn’t spread much beyond the west coast, but with the raving reviews, it’s only a matter of time.

Growers who are looking to acquire seed stock will be happy to know that feminized seeds of Jager Kush are available through online seed banks.

It’s a bit rarer than many other strains, so getting seeds as soon as you can is a good idea if you are sure you want to produce this strain for yourself. Otherwise, you never know when the next time Jager Kush feminized seeds will be in stock!

Jager Kush Strain Yield

Jager can be grown indoors and outdoors. It grows like a typical indica variety with short and stocky branches. Topping and pruning will do your crop well to improve air flow, light exposure, and encourage better overall bud development throughout the plant.

While the plant may be a short variety, it does produce well. Growers can expect around 2.3 ounces of bud per square foot of plant when grown under optimal conditions.

Many indoor growers end up with smaller harvest than their outdoor counterpart, but that doesn’t mean the bud isn’t just as good, if not better!

Jager Strain Flowering Time

The flowering period for Jager Kush is somewhere between 8-10 weeks, depending on the phenotype and growing environment. In the earlier phase of this flowering range, the trichomes will be almost all milky-white with little-to-no amber.

The latter stages will bring out more amber trichomes. Remember, milky-white means the highest possible THC but amber means more of a body experience. The usual approach is to harvest when there is an even amount of each for a balanced high and mature terpene profile.

JGR buds are known to be long and rich in forest green and purple hues. The purple color is brought out when low temperatures happen during the early stages of flowering, but it doesn’t have an effect on the potency or experience of the bud. It is merely an aesthetic bonus.

These dense indica colas are rich in rusty orange hairs and a sticky layer of white and amber trichomes that contain the majority of the cannabinoid and terpene content of the flower.

Jager Strain THC Percentage

Jager is typically tested between 19-23% THC, making it a perfect strain for intermediate cannabis consumers that don’t get high from the lightweight strains but aren’t ready for the dankensteins that put even the heaviest of cannabis consumers to bed.

It’s a relaxing experience that is perfect for nighttime use. The high is known to creep up on you, which makes newcomers tend to overconsume it, thinking that they need more for the supposed effects.

The physical relaxation melts through your entire body while a spacey cerebral state can leave you thinking introspective thoughts for quite some time.

The high isn’t as sedative as other indica-dominant strains, so you shouldn’t hit the hay too soon after smoking.

Flavor & Aroma

The essence of black licorice best describes JGR, which is probably why the original breeder chose to name it after the licorice-flavored alcohol. The aroma is a bit more sweet and earthy while the flavor is a mixture of pine and lemon intertwined with the licorice.

This weed strain is richest in the terpenes Limonene, Caryophyllene, and Pinene.

Limonene dominates strains like White Fire OG and Do-Si-Dos and may be useful when treating anxiety, depression, pain, and chronic inflammation.

Caryophyllene represents more spicy strains like Girl Scout Cookies and Original Glue and is thought to be useful for treating the same conditions as Limonene, making it a great one-two punch.

Pinene is abundant in all plant life and dominates unique strains like Big Smooth and Critical Mass and is used to treat pain, inflammation, anxiety, and many other conditions.

Those looking for cannabis strains with similar terpene profiles and effects should look into Slurricane, Gelato Cake, Garanimals, and Jet Fuel Gelato.
