Fans of the Cookies heritage and fans of the Original Glue heritage will come to find that this Zookies strain review has turned them onto a wonderful hybrid ganja strain. Fans of both GSC and GG4 will be even more pleased that these classic lineages combined to create what is now known as Zookies. If you love potency and pungency, then look no further!
Zookies Strain Genetics
Is Zookies strain indica or sativa?
Zookies was first created by Alien Labs, located in California. They took Original Glue and crossed it with Animal Cookies strain. The resulting strain, known as Zookies, is an evenly balanced hybrid marijuana strain.
This strain is known by many names: Gorilla Glue, Original Glue, GG4, and Gorilla Glue #4. No matter the nomenclature, this strain is one of the most potent on the market and presents a unique essence to go along with the intense high. Beginners tend to steer clear of the Glue line of strains due to their high potency, but GG4 is a godsend for those with a high tolerance to THC.
Interestingly enough, Original Glue hasn’t spawned many famous child strains beyond Zookies. One notable child strain produced with GG4 is Grease Monkey, a cross of GG4 and Cookies And Cream.
Animal Cookies is a cross of GSC and Fire OG. This hybrid bud strain started as a clone-only strain and is known for delivering a sweet and sour essence and a full-body experience that can be too much for beginners. Pain and insomnia are no match for Animal Cookies.
Like GG4, its widespread fame doesn’t automatically make it a great parent strain. However, it does deserve credit for Animal Mints, which is a cross of Animal Cookies and SinMint Cookies. This child strain leans further into the GSC lineage which may be worth checking out for fans of the Cookie heritage.
Availability Of Zookies Genetics
While Alien Labs is credited with creating Zookies, many breeding groups have taken it upon themselves to breed it and make it available to the public. Now, prospective growers should have no problem finding feminized seeds of Zookies from seed banks that can ship to wherever cannabis is legal. If you prefer to grow from clones, Zookies can be found at many nurseries as well.
Breeders haven’t turned Zookies into breeding stock to create new strains very often. Prolific Coast Seeds has used Zookies to create a few child strains in Kongo and Ksmorz. Kongo is a cross of Zookies and PSC2, which is a phenotype of their proprietary OG Kush strain. Ksmorz is more of the same, this time crossed with PSC1, their main breeder.
Zookies Strain Yield
Finding a good growing stock that can produce Zookies up to its lofty standards can be difficult at this time. This strain can be a little difficult to grow, but it can produce nice yields when grown to its potential. Indoor plants can reach 6 feet tall, while outdoor plants stretch to 8 feet.
Indoor plants tend to produce around 1.2-1.4 ounces per square foot of plant. Outdoor plants should produce well over 1 lb of bud per plant. If you can establish optimal growing conditions, Zookies should be quite impressive.
Zookies Flowering Time
9 weeks are required to reach optimal maturity in the buds. Indoor growers can control when their plants go into the flowering stage, but outdoor growers will be at the mercy of Mother Nature. Outdoor plants should be ready to harvest in early October.
The dense buds on a Zookies plant are typically olive green with touches of purple due to the activation of pigments following cold weather. The orange hairs are thin but the trichomes are as thick as they come. These chunky crystals coat the bud and make the visual appearance shiny in the right light.
Zookies Strain THC Percentage
Much like its parents, Zookies isn’t your run-of-the-mill beginner bud strain. THC levels bottom out around 21% but have tested as high as 30%! THC levels reaching these astronomical levels will be too intense for novices, those prone to paranoia, and those with a low tolerance to THC.
With an evenly balanced hybrid of this sort, phenotypes can lean more towards sativa or indica, meaning the high could be energizing or it could be sedating. The only way to know, besides lab work, is to try your batch out!
The high hits hard and fast and lasts longer than average as well. The cerebral effects are calming and produce a mental haze where focus is out of the question. The body high is relaxing and turns sedating quickly if you consume just a smidge too much.
Zookies Flavor & Aroma
The aroma is earthy and spicy with notes of tropical fruits and flowers. The flavor is a mixture of spicy pepper, sweet cookie, and earthiness. Phenotypes have been known to exhibit chocolate, coffee, diesel, and/or nutty essences as well.
Zookies has tested high in Caryophyllene, Limonene, Humulene, and Linalool, with each phenotype showing different concentrations of each.
If you want to sample more bud strains that offer similar effects and terpene profiles, check out Peanut Butter Breath, Sugar Cookie, and Double Diesel.
Medical Conditions Zookies Can Help
If you can handle the ultra-high levels of THC in Zookies, it can be used to treat:
- Appetite Loss
Zookies Strain Price
Zookies on average is $10-$15 per gram, $50-65 per 1/8th oz, $100-$105 per 1/4 ounce, and $200-$215 per 1/2 ounce.
Zookies Strain Seeds
Zookies seeds can be found online at various seed banks such as pevgrow.com.
Shipping of cannabis seeds to the USA is not federally legal yet although some seed banks send them regardless.
Final Words On The Cookies Weed Strain
GSC and GG4 have spawned hundreds of child strains that branch out into all families of cannabis, like Haze, Chemdawg, OG, Diesel, and much more. But, not many breeders have put the GG4 and GSC heritages together successfully.
Alien Labs crafted Zookies, a masterpiece of breeding to bring out the best from two legendary cannabis strain families.
Now, all that is left is for you to try it out and recommend it to all of your friends. Perhaps your recommendations can become your profession but taking our Budtender course and turning your passion into a career!
